Become a Sperm Donor

How to become a sperm donor

Prospective donors should contact our clinic or complete the online form below.

We will set up an interview and the details of the donation process will then be explained in person.

Our criteria

Our donors are screened carefully and we use highly developed techniques for analysing and handling our specimens. Screening includes HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B surface antigen, Hepatitis C antibodies and CMV. The urine is tested for Clamydia and Gonorrhea. All donors are seen by a doctor and by a psychologist. A comprehensive semen analysis is done.

Donors should be between the ages of 19 and 40 and in good health.

They need to be living in Cape Town and within travelling distance from our clinic in Claremont.

We only accept non-smokers or light smokers and no drug users.

Why donate

Sperm donation is an anonymous process. We will protect your privacy through donor and patient agreements.

Donors have an opportunity to help patients who are infertile due to male factor infertility, single women and men (with surrogacy) or same-sex couples. They may also be able to help patients who are infertile due to genetic disorders, illnesses like cancer or patients who have had their testes surgically removed.

Other than the humanitarian value of their donation, donors are compensated as per National Health act for their expenses.

Anonymity as a sperm donor

South African law prohibits disclosure of donor and recipient identities. The identity of the donor remains at all times anonymous, and the recipients do not have a right to learn the identity of the donor or request donor-identifying information from any other source.

The donor will also not obtain information regarding the recipients of the sperm. The sperm donor is free from all responsibilities to the biological offspring produced by his donation. The donor can choose whether he wants to know if he has been responsible for any pregnancies.

Compensation for sperm donation

Donors are compensated as per National Health act for their expenses and do not have to pay for tests related with the donation procedure.
